How to Record Stripe Fees in QuickBooks Online
Stripe deposits the net amount: sales minus refunds, disputes and Stripe's fees. If you record the deposit as income you understate sales and lose the fee expense; if you record each sale you have nothing that matches the deposit.
The journal entry
| Account | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Checking | 95.04 | |
| Stripe Fees | 19.95 | |
| Refunds | 20.00 | |
| Chargebacks | 15.00 | |
| Sales | 149.99 |
Importing it
- Download “Journal CSV — QuickBooks Online” from PayoutSplit.
- In QuickBooks Online: + New › Journal entry, then the gear/“Import journal entries” option (or Settings › Import data › Journal entries in newer menus).
- Map Journal No, Journal Date, Account Name, Debits, Credits, Description — the columns already have those names.
- In Banking, match the Stripe deposit to the journal entry's Checking line.
Account names in the file must exist in your chart of accounts; QuickBooks shows an error for any it can't find.
